"The Arch"
Rewriting the History of the Medianera: From Limit to Protagonist
The party wall improvement project proposes a reinterpretation that transforms the residual into a protagonist, redefining its place in the urban fabric. When we look to the future, we seek lightness and adaptability; when we look to the past, we reclaim the enduring. This temporal dialogue guides the proposal, which begins with formal simplicity to establish an architecture that connects both horizons.
The intervention is conceived as a new narrative, a starting point that rewrites the history of the party wall under the conditions of the present and the accumulated learning. In its formal essence, the structure of arches and columns evokes the solidity and permanence of the classic, while its disruptive volumetric composition introduces a contemporary dynamism that simultaneously challenges and organizes.
This compositional play is not arbitrary; it finds its harmony in the tension between the established and the new. Geometry unfolds to articulate an order perceived both in the internal logic of the design and in its ability to interact with its surroundings. The façade, now the main facade, not only redefines its function but also becomes an architectural manifesto: the durable and the lightweight, the classic and the innovative, merge in a gesture that transcends its original condition.
The simplicity of form is the vehicle for this transformation, capturing in its essence the origin and memory of the place, while looking toward a future in which balance and harmony are reaffirmed as timeless values.
